Reelwell Secures Multi-Year Contract with Vår Energi
Reelwell has successfully obtained a multi-year agreement with Vår Energi to implement its advanced DualLink digital drill pipe technology in offshore operations on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS). This marks the debut use of the DualLink system in such operations. The initial phase of the contract encompasses a one-year deployment on the COSLPioneer rig, with the option to extend this arrangement for up to four additional years. Furthermore, there are provisions to expand the technology’s application to all Vår Energi installations in the North Sea, contingent upon future operational requirements.

As part of the contract, Reelwell will be responsible for the comprehensive delivery of the DualLink technology, which facilitates immediate surface control and enhances the functionality of downhole tools. The DualLink system is notable for integrating real-time telemetry with wellbore power, which significantly improves operational oversight and provides consistent energy supply to downhole instruments. This cutting-edge technology allows for real-time monitoring and analysis of critical drilling data, thereby optimizing wellbore operations continuously on the rig.
Collaboration with Odfjell Technology
Odfjell Technology will play a crucial role by supplying drill pipe components and managing maintenance, logistics, and support services for the COSLPioneer rig. This partnership marks their first contract following a collaboration initiated in 2024, aimed at boosting drilling efficiency and technological advancements.

Reelwell’s CEO, Svein Strømberg, expressed enthusiasm about the contract, noting that it represents a significant milestone in the company’s evolution. He emphasized that the deployment of the DualLink system offshore on the NCS is a groundbreaking development. In a related development, Vår Energi has forged a partnership with Aker Solutions for projects on the NCS, focusing on value creation through collaborative planning and efficient execution. This alliance also includes Honeywell and StS-ISONOR, aimed at fostering integrated teamwork and achieving shared objectives through a proven operational model.
