Lantmännen Energi AB has signed an initial agreement with ARP (Agencja Rozwoju Przemysłu) S.A. and minority shareholders to acquire Ekobenz Sp. z o.o. (Ekobenz), a firm based in Poland. This strategic acquisition aims to bolster Lantmännen Energy’s leadership in the bioenergy sector by forging a fully integrated and resilient supply chain for sustainable fuels. The move is expected to diminish dependence on fossil fuels and provide scalable, commercially viable alternatives for industries where electrification remains impractical.
### Ekobenz’s Innovative Contributions to Biofuels
Established in 2006 by Stanisław Jabłoński in Lublin, Poland, Ekobenz has been at the forefront of developing Ethanol-to-Gasoline (EtG) technology, producing advanced biofuels that significantly cut CO₂ emissions. The company’s state-of-the-art commercial facility in Bogumiłów has been operational since 2017, generating millions of liters of sustainable fuel. With a workforce of 61, Ekobenz is projected to achieve sales revenue of €13 million in 2024 and has built a strong customer base, particularly in the special fuels market, including motorsport.
### Enhancing Sustainable Fuel Solutions
“We are enhancing our value chain and solidifying our leadership in sustainable fuels through the acquisition of Ekobenz. By merging proven technology with Lantmännen’s biofuel expertise, we are taking significant strides toward scalable biofuel solutions,” stated Magnus Kagevik, CEO and Group President of Lantmännen. With the acquisition, Ekobenz will benefit from the technical know-how of Lantmännen Biorefineries, which boasts extensive experience in producing ethanol sustainably. Their Norrköping facility offers a remarkable reduction of up to 98% in CO₂ emissions compared to traditional fossil gasoline, establishing a reliable sustainable feedstock for Ekobenz’s bio-gasoline production.
### A Comprehensive Approach to Biofuel Production
Having an already certified production facility in Europe, Ekobenz brings established technology to Lantmännen Energy, enabling the production of high-quality sustainable fuels, including bio-gasoline, bio-LPG, and bio-aromatics. The integration of Ekobenz into Lantmännen’s energy offerings will enhance its ability to provide immediate, scalable, and infrastructure-compatible solutions aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. “With the addition of Ekobenz, we acquire significant expertise and the capability to produce bio-gasoline from bio-ethanol. This acquisition allows us to complete the value chain for sustainable fuels—from raw materials to finished products,” remarked Niklas Lindberg, Senior Vice President of Lantmännen Energy Division.
### Transaction Timeline and Company Information
The transaction is anticipated to close by December 1, 2025.
